To Our Friends One-Hundred Yrs Hence,
Ten Reasons Why Christian Science
Will Be The Religion of Your Day.

Preamble.

While I do not expect to set forth all the reasons, or bring out the many strong proofs that we have at this period that Christian Science will and must eventually be the religion to come, in the short time and space allotted me. Still it is my purpose to give in ten classifications a few of the most prominent and demonstratively proofs that such will be the case.

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
"Life is but an empty dream."
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul,

--:1st:--

Because: Its teachings are Scriptural. Teaching the eternal reality of good as God, and the consequent unreality of evil, or that element which opposes the divine character in human affairs. It teaches the reality of Mind or Spirit as supreme cause and the unreality of matter or flesh, i.e., Materialism.

It proclaims the inspiring Biblical fact that sin, sickness, and death are no part of the divine plan, but errors of human belief, and material existence.

It looks forward to the time, Utopian though it may seem, when all that wars against harmonious and individual perfection in man, will be swallowed up in all-pervading presence of spiritual harmony and divine control.

Because: Of a few scriptural references that bear out this thought.
"Thou (God) are of purer eyes than to behold evil and caust not look on iniquity." (Habakkuk 1:13).
"God is Light (Intelligence, Good,) and in him is no darkness (Wickedness, death), at all." (1 John 1:5).
"God is Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and Truth." (John 4:24).
"When lust hath conceived it bringeth forth sin, and sin, when it is finished bringeth forth death." (James 1:15).
"And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent called Devil (evil) (error), and Satan, which deceived the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." (Rev. 12:9).
"Ye are of your father, the devil and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him, When he speaketh a lie he speaketh of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it." (John 8:44).

--:3rd:--

Because: Christian Science teaches that man should be God like, and not God man-like. The human race is unlike God to-day, not because of law, but because of error, all its sin and sorrow, pain, sickness, and death; all its poverty, depravity, and strife; all indeed that is unlike infinite Good, is in consequ4ence of ignorance of the Science of Being.

A causal examination of metaphysical science reveals the cause of human woe. There is no longer any excuse for ignorance on this subject nor is there justification thereof. There has been sent to this age a message and gospel and this is Christian Science, the Christ Science of knowledge of God, and of the Life that is God.

--:4th:--

Because: The life of a Christian Scientist is a life of prayer without ceasing, silent, aspiring, and deep-hearted. Such prayer removes mountains, heals disease, builds up the broken hearts of earth, and widens the mind's horizon. Prayer of this sort brings the thoughts of man into oneness with the divine Mind and the worship of God becomes the daily reflection of the Mind which moves only in Love's groves, and thus Governs all in harmony.

"Not with hatred's undertow
Doth the Love Eternal flow;
Every claim that spirit's wear
Crumbles in the breath of prayer,
And the penitent's desire
Opens every gate of Fire."

--:5th--

Because: Healing in Christian Science, and salvation are one and the same thing. Theology and material medicine have endeavored to separate them, and in the attempt are fulfilling the Scriptures. "They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture."

When we attempt to separate healing and salvation, we are dividing the garments and, sooner or later, we must restore it in all its beauty and symmetry. Here Christian Science enters the arena and says: "All is Mind and its manifestation," Mind is the only power, and controls every action and, function of the body. The body in itself has no life or power, it is inanimate and senseless. All causations is, must be, Mental, there is no physical causation.

--:6th:--

Because: It honors Mind above every system of philosophy, to such an extent indeed, that Christian Scientists believe that it teaches that Mind is all.

On comparison it will be found that Christian Science possesses more of Christ's teachings, and example, than all other religions since the first Century.

We cannot loose that which is real, neither can we keep that which is unreal.

--:7th:--

Because: "It counts not its strength from numerical standpoints, but from the power it has among men as a quickener of Spiritual discernment; a healer of disease, a reformer of the depraved and vicious; a purifier of social, moral and business methods; a savior of men from the miasma of materialism, skepticism and "Science" falsely so-called "a deliverer from the awful dogma of eternal punishment, and a verifier of the promises of Jesus Christ."

--:8th:--

Because: Christian Science places its greatest emphasis by reaffirming the nature freedom and spiritual dominion of the true man, because he is the constant going forth, the perpetual manifestations of the nature and life of God. This is the fundamental fact whose apprehension leads to the largest freedom.

It is the all-inclusiveness of God as Divine Principle, and man's relation to him as the constant expression and reflection of His character, that our sovereignty is grounded.

--:9th:--

Because: The study of Science and health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker G. Eddy, has healed thousands, and will eventually take its place universally as the key which unlocks the mysteries of the Bible, and reveals the true Science of Being, and of permanent harmony.

--:10th:--

Because: Christian Science has found us, and is leading us, day by day, "with precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little, and there a little" out of the ways of sin and fear and sorrow and disease, into the clear paths of right thinking. And even in our present modest beginnings, this correction of thought is bearing fruit in joy and peace and true health. We are making but poor returns, unless we strive to bring "every thought into obedience to Christ." We shall have accomplished this when we learn what it is to lay all at the foot of Christ, (Truth).

Some have awakened from this dream of mortality. Should it seem strange or preposterous or condemnable that they are anxious to and are awakening others?

And how uplifting and encouraging is this new old thought of Christian truth. How much the wide world needs it. Certainly no one can have even a meager sense of this truth without being enriched and stimulated thereby, while those who enter into its fullness "mount up with wings as eagles."
