Mon. 3. Not clear.. Mr Converse left - Wrote & read all the morning - no letters. - Annie Tyler - Cathedral - (Mr. & Mrs. Day.) - Archbishop Purcell - Statuary - Confessional - Governor Moreheads lecture in the evening - Mr Lupton the Pres. of the association - Annie spent the night.

Tues. 4. - Beautiful day - headache - (from talking all night.) House in progress. - - Medical College - burlesque and the Smithsonian - Professors house to match. -

Friday 7. - By great efforts landed in ------fasting at 9! - Found that we must be all parked at 10 ½ - nearly distracted - accomplished it - sat with bonnets on waiting till 11. - went on board the boat Ben Franklin & waited one hour - Beautiful day... - Steamboat manners at table - Dress - black & blue plaid trimmed with pink & green frings! - (Bridal couple in the cars coming from Columbus - bride - blue & gold silk - black wrists - white straw, white ribbon - white silk gloves - white sash.) - Wrote to Annie in the afternoon

Sunday 9. Clear but warm. - Mr Shaw & daughter from Boston. - Heard Mr. Humphrey in the morning - Fair sermon - Slept in the afternoon & wrote. - Thunder Shower. - (Waiter - hair dressed like a womans - & earrings in his ears - peculiar intonating in speaking.) -

Mon. 10. - Rainy - decided very suddenly to start for St. Louis - road around the city - Sallie Wards old home. - (Greenhouse - old fashioned place.) - Groves - Locust trees in blossom, snowballs - & rose vines - "Pentecnetheca." - Went on board the Gen. Pike at 12. o'clock. - Before starting visited the Eclipse a New Orleans boat lying by side of it - Most gorgeously fitted - doors of the state rooms - stained glass - & C. - Pleasant day -

Mon 17. Clear - cool Dressmaker at six !!!!! - Went out shopping - Mr. P. started for Quincy. Wrote P.m. & evening. - Started letter for E.B.H. - Annie - Henry Root & Susie Brooks. -

Tues. 18. - Pleasant - spent the forenoon in a fringe Store. - German girl - flowers. - Wrote after dinner - walked out - Black woman eating a radish p "A college as I understand it - where they dissect the dead" - - Wrote to Mrs. Wood & Mr Palmer in the evening. Rather lonely.

Wed. 19. - Pleasant - Letters from E.B.H. & H.D.K. - write all the morning - Suly sick.. - mailed a letter for E.B.H. - made headdress in the evening. -

Thurs. 20 - Taken at 12 Wed. night with rheumatism. - Rain. pain! - Ineffectual efforts to break the lock to Mr. P's trunk - night porter - "Screw driver!" - Suly's expedition to the druggists' - Dr. Granger. (French man. 19 years in this country. - Liberal Homopathist - Enthusiasm - power of illustration - Music & Medicine - Little fiddle & base viol! - Fever - "we put out de fire before we clare way de rubbish!" -) - called three times. - Better toward night Letter from E.B.H. - Wrote a letter to EBH. in pencil.
